Can You Dig It?

“The greatest oak was once a little nut who held its ground”

-Cuba Gooding

This quote is absolutely fitting for today.

I believe that most of you are praising the Lord, smiling, laughing, loving, and being authentically YOU today. Some of you are even competing, thriving, enjoying, and focusing on your craft, your calling, your purpose, your destiny today.

You are LIVING today! So am I!

With all that has happened in your life, you should be a basket case, in a puddle of tears, depressed, miserable, and flat-out crazy! BUT GOD…!

Through the supernatural power of God, you have garnered strength, courage, confidence, swagger, peace, joy, hope and love to declare with your actions, as well as your mouth… “I shall not die but live!’

You are just crazy enough to praise your way through it, glory in tribulation, and even pray for those who persecute you.

WOW! You are a nut!

But you just might be crazy enough to receive EVERYTHING that you ever wanted; the desires of your heart, bountiful Blessings, and just flat-out too much. Why?! Because in the midst of the storm, the stirring emotions, the hate, the rage, the attack…You Stood Your Ground!

And when you dig down, root yourself in good ground (peace, joy, love, kindness, patience, self-control, etc.), then you become immovable, unshakeable… An Oak! It’s crazy how they never saw how much of an oak you were, when they were only calling you a nut. But God “calls those things that are not, as though they were”.

You Have Always Been an Oak! Can You Dig It?

Much Love,

Can You Dig It?

“When you come to the point when you have no need to impress anybody, your freedom will begin!”

-Kwame Kilpatrick

I was in the Chapel this morning, and a group from outside (Alcoholics Anonymous) came in for a meeting and awards ceremony. I was sweeping, cleaning and getting the Chapel ready for the event.

A man walked up to me and asked, “Are you the former Mayor of Detroit?” I said, “Why do you ask?” He said, “I didn’t think it was you because you are sweeping the floor.” I said, “Well, I actually swept floors when I was Mayor of Detroit…it’s the whole prison thing that is really my issue.”

He laughed, held out his hand, and I smiled then shook it. He turned out to be a cool dude. And knew waaayyyy too much about me. He even asked about Jelani, Jalil and Jonas. The only name he said correctly was Jonas, but it was cool. Lol.

As I left the Chapel, heading back to the unit, he called out to me, “Mayor, I just want you to know something. You look freer now than you ever looked on TV. The ‘whole prison thing’ (throwing up air quotes) is really not your issue…its Gods issue. And it seems God is handling it fine”

GLORY TO GOD!

It was a moment that I knew and fully understood how very correct he was. I have never been more free than I am right now. I know it seems counter-intuitive, and maybe even a ridiculous or foolish notion to some…But it’s true.

I really don’t give a rip about what anyone thinks anymore. I am not trying to impress anyone. I have received in my spirit that God loves KMK. He has my picture in his wallet, and my 8×10 on his mantle. I’m good!

Today, be naked and unashamed! BE FREE!

Stop trying to impress people with your style, swag, intellect, money, pride, ego, resume, outward appearance, job, career, or whatever. God made you in His image, and after His likeness. And He expresses Himself through you Every Day. HE loves You! Make the decision today that being You is good enough.

My problem was not a physical prison. Like so many others, I only had to emancipate myself from the mental slavery, bondage, confinement that I accepted in my soul from “people”. Since I have been set free from that ridiculous self-inflicted incarceration…Now, I only have to deal with this evil, corrupt, unjust, nonsense that was done in Detroit.

Much Love,
